Do they really think that these life jackets would save either of them, they were about five sizes too big and David's barely even tied together.
Things have been super busy here between life with the kids, them going to school, horse back riding lessons, volunteering and just everyday life here in Nairobi. We sure have settled into our routine here, David is sleeping in a big boy bed and sleeping through the night most nights, which has been WONDERFUL! We are now finished with two months of our "fostering period," which lasts three months and then we can apply for our first court date, so that is also very exciting. I can't believe that we have been here for two months already, so time is moving quickly and hopefully before we know it we will be home as a family and will be able to visit with all of you. Tonight is a rainy night, David took a late nap and Jalena came home from school with a stomach bug and is now sleeping, so I am writing this blog entry with David on my lap while we have some quiet time in front of Sesame Street.
We went away for two nights this weekend, with me still thinking we were in the States and taking Monday off for Memorial Day. We headed North to the Rift Valley, which is covered in farms, coffee and tea plantations, tons of lakes, and just lots of green space and clean air for the kids to run around. We headed out Sat morning and made our way to Lake Naivasha for lunch at the lake and a boat ride to be really close to some hippos. David enjoyed the boat ride so much he was ready to jump in the water with them, you cannot keep this kid away or out of the water very easily. By four thirty we had passed Lake Nakuru and made our way to Subukia, which is just a small village that has this little farm with 6 bandas (huts). The farm was taken over by this French couple just a few months ago and it was a wonderful little retreat. The kids had tons of fun petting animals, running through the grass (something Nairobi is lacking), horseback riding and then a safari on Sunday afternoon on Lake Nakuru to see the flamingos.
Hope you enjoy the pictures.
Lots of love,
Katie, Jalena and David
