Starting our own little life here in Nairobi

So sorry but no new pics today. No new ones taken, plus just exhausted. David has not been sleeping again, I thought school would have the opposite effect on him, however now he seems to have more energy than ever. Today though we did without a nap and we are crossing our fingers and hoping for the very best!

I found myself a volunteer job that I really am very happy with and just could not be more in love with the organization, its mission and values. It is called LOVE SHACK. It is registered as an Irish NGO (Non-governmental organization), but mainly run here on the ground by a British woman, who happens to be a nurse. She has been here in Kenya for the last 6 years, first living in one of the slums, called Kawangare. She had another friend from Ireland come over and visit and she is the one who registered it as an NGO and does the fund raising in Ireland and England. Karen is the woman's name who I am working with, who is just a gem, she used to do psychiatric nursing in England with the homeless, so she is right up my alley. She always dreamed of having an OXFAM shop when she grew up and now she has created one in Nairobi. LOVE SHACK stands for Love sick, homeless, abandoned, children of Kenya. She is not religious affilited at all. She runs a center in Kawangare and helps children who are sick abandoned and homeless. She finds donors to support them in school and care for them medically. She has opened up a thrift shop not far from where we are living here and then all the profits go to support the kids. Her hope for the organization is to be able to build a hospice and home for the children one day, so parents who are dying can still be with their children, but be cared for not by their children, still see them growing up and know that once they have passed they will be cared for by LOVE SHACK. I don't think she could have a better goal in mind for the children of Kenya. Every day children are not attending school and are robbed of their childhood caring for parents dying from HIV/AIDS and parents never know what the future holds for their children. For parents to be able to pass in peace and know that their children will have a better future is just a wonderful cause. This is the website http://www.loveshackkenya.ie/

So right now I am just working in the shop, but hoping to do more outreach with her in the slums, once things are more settled in the store. We had a great day today in the shop and it was only day two that it was opened, so we are hoping for many more days like today! David also yesterday started using the potty, so we are having a very good week so far. Jalena starts horseback riding lessons on Saturday morning, so we just hope she likes horses as much as she likes dogs and it is something she falls in love with here. It is quite inexpensive here to do, so it would be great if she can get the basics down!

Got to head to bed again, not knowing when my little munchkin will awake. Love to all-K
