Saturday before Easter

We promised the kids (and particularly Jalena who holds you to promises) french toast on Saturday morning. Friday night, after the kids were asleep, Josh stepped into the shower and... no water. (Luckily the kids took their bath with the last remaining drops). With still no water when we woke up Saturday morning, we had no choice but to take Jalena to Java House for french toast. Java House has such a wonderful racket: they know they're the only ones in Nairobi that can make good pancakes, french toast and bacon, egg and cheese so they're glad to charge you for the value... So we took our little yuppie children to Java House. We were there for what seemed like a long time, but somehow neither us us even finished our coffee.

Once we returned, it was time to "go bwimming!" as David shouted. This photo may have been the only three seconds where neither David nor Jalena is kicking and splashing furiously.
Oops. Yeah, couldn't sit still for a second photo where the kids smiled.
Lisa and Kevin (another neighbor) took David for a trip around the pool.
Both kids love the water. Jalena is still pretty risk averse (though she's comfortably sitting low enough on the steps for the water to be just below her neck), while David just wants more. Although shivering furiously by the time we forced him out, he was still angry he couldn't do any more bwimming. Mom intends to take him any day it's sunny for the next si

After swimming it was time to dye easter eggs.
Jalena had the hang of it because she did it with Katie last year.
The camera was randomly on hand the first time David tried to drink the dye (a color tablet, water and vinegar). He tried vigorously for 30 minutes to get a sip - but didn't discriminate about whether his first sip would be red, green or purple.
Upon realizing he wasn't going to get dye in his bottle.
About a week ago, David stopped eating the traditional Kenyan food (mostly corn meal, peas and squash) he'd been fed at the home. Mom's very happy because he's mostly interested in eating pasta; particularly macaroni and cheese (from a box to Katie's horror).
Jalena helped Mommy make Mommy's birthday cake (since Katie's birthday was on Easter). Dad wanted to make something special for Mommy, but hasn't been as good at multi-tasking while also watching the children.
Jalena shows off the cutest apron a girl could have.
